Applications sought for Rajiv Gandhi award

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) Chairman of the advisory panel of Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award, Dr Karan Singh today invited proposals by June 30, 2008, for the said award.

The award carries a citation and cash prize of Rs 3 lakh to be given either to individuals or institutions for making contributions in promoting commual harmony, a press release said here.

Mother Teresa, K R Narayanan and Ustad Bismillah Khan were among the previous recipients of the award.

FAO expects rice production to rise by 1.8 per cent in 2008

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) World rice production is expected to increase in 2008 by 12 million tonnes or 1.8 per cent, assuming normal weather conditions, United Nations agency Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has said.
