UK Home Secretary to visit Pakistan

Islamabad, Apr 6 : British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will arrive here on Sunday on a two-day official visit to Pakistan to discuss security related issues.

The Daily Times quoted official sources as saying that Smith would meet Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik. Sources said both officials would discuss a host of issues, including terrorism, security, human trafficking and other aspects of their bilateral relations. Smith is also expected to meet President Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and others.

This is the first ever high-level visit by a foreign dignitary since the formation of Pakistan's new Government.

Afghanistan's Foreign Minister is also expected to visit Pakistan next month.

Sees progress on new Iran sanctions: US official

Washington, Mar 2: Major powers made progress on agreeing on new sanctions on Iran and hope to have their UN ambassadors begin drafting a formal UN Security Council resolution next week, a senior US official said.The official told Reuters that political directors representing the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany ''were able to resolve most of the issues'' in a two-hour conference call yesterday and hoped to complete their deliberations in another conference call tomorrow.Reuters.....
