Shimla town Records coldest night of spring

Shimla, Apr 6 (UNI) The famous tourist resort of Shimla town in Himachal Pradesh today recorded the minimum temperature at 4.4 degree Celsius following mild intermittent snow in the tribal districts and widespread rains in the lower parts of the state during the last three days, the met office said.

''The minimum temperature plummeted to 4.4 degree Celsius as compared to yesterday's low of 7.4 degree Celsius, making the last night the coldest of this season (spring),'' Shimla Meteorological Office Director Manmohan Singh told UNI here.

He said the night temperatures across the state have fallen sharply during the last few days due to snowfall at several places in the tribal districts of Kinnuar, Chamba, Lahaul Spiti and Kullu and Dhauladhar Ranges, overlooking the picturesque Kangra Valley and widespread rains in the lower parts.

Meanwhile, the met sources said the remote areas of Pangi and Bharmaur in Chamba district experienced fresh spell of mild intermittent snowfall last night, while there was no report of any snow from any other tribal area of the state during the past 24 hrs.

Though the sky was cloudy over the tribal district of Kinnaur district throughout the day today, there was no report of any snow up to 1730 hrs, it said.

The sky was partially cloudy over the remaining parts of the state following which the day temperatures rose appreciably with the day temperature at Sundernagar stood at 25.4 degrees as compared to 16 degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

The met office added the day temperature in the hill state's capital also rose by two degrees to 13.4 degrees Celsius as against 11.7 degrees Celsius yesterday, while it rose to 25 degrees Celsius as compared to 18.4 degrees Celsius at Bhuntar.

The minimum at Kalpa in Kinnuar district rose by a few notches to stand at one degree Celsius.

Shimla town also recorded 19 mm rain followed by seven mm each at Kalpa and Bhuntar, 12 mm at Sundernagar, two mm at Mandi town and 27 mm at Nahan in Sirmaur district during the last 24 hrs.

The met office have predicted rains and snow at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs.

TN yet to resume bus services to K'taka

Bangalore, Apr 6 (UNI) Bus services from Tamil Nadu remained suspended as transport corporations authorities in the neighbouring state were yet to decide on resuming the services to Karnataka in the wake of agitation against the Hogenakkal water project. Bus services from either side of the border remained suspended during the last week and no vehicle crossed the border at the busy Hosur.
