Armed forces pay problem will be solved: Antony

Tawang, Apr 6: Defence Minister A K Antony on Sunday said that the government will look into the concerns raised by the armed forces regarding the Sixth Pay Commission's recommendation, and that the problem would be resolved. "We will take it up and solve the problem," Antony told reporters here after addressing troops of the Kameng sector along the India-China border.

He went on to say that the government was hopeful of reaching an acceptable solution over the issue. Highlighting the need for improving infrastructure in the North Eastern region, Antony said: "We are lagging behind in infrastructure in the region and it is the topmost priority of the Centre to go in for its massive development." Pointing out decrease in insurgency in the region, he said: "Insurgency had affected adversely the region, but it will require time and patience to solve the problem."

Earlier in the day, Antony laid wreath at the war memorial at the border post.

Anthony and Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor arrived here this morning on routine visit to review the situation on the international border.

Last year, Antony twice planned to visit Tawang, but had to call off his visit due to inclement weather.

It may be recalled that Arunachal Pradesh BJP MP Kiren Rijiju had repeatedly claimed about incursions by the Chinese Army in the Tawang sector.

Antony's visit assumes significance as Tawang has been featuring in reports concerning India-China border settlement issues.
