Mumbai, Apr 6 (UNI) ''The Peace Tree'', a 48-minute film directed by Mitra Sen of Indian origin, has triggered peace initiatives among children all over the world, including Kolkata.
The award winning-film has inspired many schools and municipal corporations to observe ''Peace Tree Day'' every year on June 1, so as to motivate children and their families of diverse cultures and faiths to celebrate this new found ''festival'' together.
Children around the world have also started to create Peace Trees, Peace Tree Stands, Peace Tree Clubs, and Peace Tree Centres in their schools and have joined the Peace Tree Ambassadors' Network.
On June 1 next, ''Peace Tree Day'' will be launched in Kolkata with the creation of India's first permanent Peace Tree at Peace Park in Victoria Memorial, Ms Sen, the film's producer, writer, and director, told UNI on the sidelines of the film's premier on Friday last here at American Centre.
The film tells the story of two little girls, one Muslim and one Christian, in which both of them dream of celebrating each other's festivals, Christmas and Eid. However, when they share their vision, they are met with resistance from their parents, who express their concerns. Through their struggle, the children create a Peace Tree that highlights the symbols from all the cultures and faiths to reflect the beauty of ''unity in diversity''.
Ms Sen is presently also engaged into pre-production of her new film ''Under the Same Sun'', to be shot in Rajasthan.
