Guj Govt transfers 41 IAS officials

Gandhinagar, Apr 6 (UNI) With a view to strengthen the administration in the state, Gujarat Home Department today transferred as many as 41 senior IAS officers.

The administrative reshuffle was done with an objective to complete the state's lifeline Narmada project by 2010 and to improve the Human Development Index of the state.

According to an official release here, among the transferred officials included Narandas Patel who has been appointed as Chairman of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNL).

Mr Patel would replace former Chief secretary P K Laheri, who was not willing to continue as chairman of SSNL, while, Additional Chief secretary A K Joti has been made Managing Director of the SSNL.

Among other important transfers, Sudha Anchalia has been appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Company Ltd (GNFC), while P N Rowchaudhary has been moved from forest department and replaced by another senior IAS officer S K Nanda. Rajesh Kishore is the new Food and Civl Supplies secretary.

Atanu Chakravarti has been appointed as new Managing Director of the Gujarat Maritime Board. Mr Chakravarti has replaced Mr H K Dash who has been transferred as secretary Port and Transport.

Vijaylakshmi Joshi will now head Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC). Haribhai Patel has been made Managing Director of the Gujarat State Fertiliser Corporation.

Kolkata-Dhaka 'Moitree Express' start from April 14

Dhaka, Apr 7: The Bangladesh Council of Advisers has approved the draft of Dhaka-Kolkata passenger train service. An agreement between Bangladesh and India would be signed 'soon' for the train service, which both the countries have agreed in principle to start from April 14, press secretary to the chief adviser of Bangladesh Fakhruddin Ahmed told mediapersons yesterday. Earlier, railway officials finalised the details of the service at a two-day bilateral meet on Wednesday-Thursday, Mr Syed Fahim Munaim said after the advisory.....

Bicycle bomb recovered

Guwahati, Apr 07 (UNI) The Army this morning averted a major disaster when it recovered a bicycle bomb and arrested three ULFA cadres on the proscribed militant organisation's raising day at Namrup. Official sources said the 44th field regiment of the Army nabbed three ULFA cadres - Putul Gogoi, Nabajyoti Gogoi and Jatin Gogoi - from Borhat area of Tinsukia district. Based on their confession, the Army recovered a bicycle bomb from the Namrup.....
