Girl behind acid attack remanded to police custody

Mumbai, Apr 6 (UNI) A local court today remanded a girl accused of hatching a plot to hurl acid at her ex-boyfriend last month, to police custody till April 8.

Vendelene Narohna, a student of city-based St Andrews College, was arrested yesterday by the officers of crime branch CID, after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Sessions court.

Holiday court today granted police custody to Narohna, after crime branch CID moved an application, submitting that investigation in the case was going on and police wanted to confront her in front of the two other accused who were her friends. The accused had asked them to hurl acid on Vivek Patel, her former boyfriend.

Besides her involvement in masterminding the attack, she was also charged for attempting suicide as she had attempted suicide by slashing her wrist yesterday, while the court was hearing her anticipatory bail plea.

After her bail plea was rejected, she was taken into police custody but was admitted to a hospital. She was brought to court today by police from the hospital.

It may be recalled that on March 28, police arrested Narhona's two friends from the city's suburbs, who had hurled acid on Patel.

She was erlier granted interim relief, while court had directed the police not to arrest her till April 4. But the same day her plea was rejected and was taken into custody.

Guj Govt transfers 41 IAS officials

Minor fire in LIC building in Mumbai, no casualties

Mumbai, Apr 6 (UNI) A minor fire broke out on the fourth floor of the five-storeyed LIC building on Phirozeshah Mehta road in South Mumbai tonight. According to fire brigade officials, the fire started at around 2235 hours. Ten fire engines and two ambulances were dispatched to douse the fire. The cause for the fire is not yet known. There were no reports of loss of life till now, and the extent of damage to the property.....
