AP to create 10 lakh jobs for youth in pvt sector in 2 years: YSR

Hyderabad, Apr 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced his government would provide ten lakh jobs to the youth in private sector in the next two years in the state.

In an open letter to the people on the eve of Telugu New Year - Ugaadi, Dr Reddy said the government had allocated Rs 500 crore to provide training to educated unemployed youth under 'Rajiv Arogya Sri' scheme which would help more than ten lakh youth get jobs in the private sector.

Stating the government had provided four lakh jobs in private sector and more than one lakh jobs to youth in government departments in the last four years, he said his government had been fulfilling the promises made during 2004 elections in providing employment opportunities to youth.

Announcing the number of beneficiaries of the pension scheme would be increased to 60 lakh from the present 50 lakh by next Ugadi, the Chief Minister said the total beneficiaries in 2004 was 18 lakh.

Stating the government had allocated Rs 100 crore to stabilise the sky - rocketing prices of essential commodities out of Rs 300 crore proposed, he said rice, edible oil and black gram would be distributed at subsidised rates from this month to the white ration card holders.

A high-power committee was also constituted to monitor the prices of essential goods, he said, adding raids were being conducted on hoarders to check the artificial scarcity of goods.

Electronic media must play a greater role: Antony

New Delhi, June 20: Defence Minister A K Antony today said the electronic media had emerged as the most powerful communication tool in the country, and asked private television channels to play a ''greater'' role in the emerging socio-economic scenario.He was inaugurating the National Bureau and the studio of "Jaihind TV," a Malayalam channel sponsored by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), at the YWCA complex here.Mr Antony said there were still space for more new channels......
