Two police officers sent to judicial custody

Agartala, April 05 : The Amarpur Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate in South Tripura today sent two accused senior police officers to 14 days judicial custody for snatching a treasure chest from a tribal family in the district last week.

Commandant of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) Ninth Battalion Manik Lal Majumdar and DSP (Enforcement) Pinaki Samanta were sent to three days police custody on April 2 for further investigation into their alleged involvement in the robbery of the treasure chest from Nagrai, a tribal hamlet in Amarpur subdivision of south Tripura on March 29.

Specific cases had been registered against the two officers under Sections 457 and 380 IPC while CID sleuths had recovered the stolen treasure from an abandoned lake at Raticherra under Baikhora police station in South Tripura.

One Sumitradevi Jamatia had lodged a complaint that a group of TSR jawans, led by Mr Majumdar and Mr Samanta took away their sacred chest with some valuables from their house when they were attending a social function in their neighbour's house.

ARC to report on conflict management in NE

Agartala, Jul 27: The second Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC), constituted by UPA government, has asserted to submit a separate charter of recommendations on conflict management and insurgency in Northeast.
