Chandigarh, Apr 5 (UNI) The Punjab Government has decided to enhance the rate of subsidy from 50 per cent to 75 per cent on Drip and Sprinkler Scheme for Irrigation.
Giving this information, Agriculture Minister Sucha Singh Langah said this system of irrigation was more economical and also useful for all the crops including fruit and vegetables except paddy plantation.
''Drip irrigation is modern technique which consumes less water, proving helpful in checking the depleting water table,'' he said.
Under Drip Irrigation Scheme subsidy on farm water storage tanks would also be given to the tune of 50 per cent or maximum Rs one lakh, he said.
Giving more details, the Minister said this modern technique benefits farmers in many ways. It consumes less fertilizer, labour and power and gives more and high quality yield to farmers.
The Minister appealed to the farming community to adopt drip and sprinkler modern technique of irrigation and get this fitted in their farms only from reputed and registered firms as recommended by the soil and water conservation department.
