IIM-C to maintain fees at Rs seven lakh

Kolkata, Apr 5 (UNI) IIM-C in its Board of Director's meeting today decided not to hike the annual fees further from the proposed Rs seven lakh.

The decision came after an unexpected hike in the fee structure by IIM-B and IIM-A for the post-graduate programme in management thus reneging on an understanding over the figure of consensus.

On February 26, IIM-C had decided to raise the fees of the two year post-graduate programme to Rs seven lakh from Rs four lakh.

However, the institute at Bangalore raised it to Rs 11.5 lakh from Rs four lakhs and Ahmedabad increased it to Rs eight lakh from Rs five lakh, despite the decision to peg it at Rs seven lakh.

Institute Director Sekhar Chaudhari had accused the premier business schools at Bangalore and Ahmedabad of breaching the agreement of maintaining the fees at Rs seven lakh.

The IIM-A and B decided to increase their fees further to attract the best brains in the profession.

Prof Chaudhari said the hike was unexpected and that the institutes had backtracked from the promise of maintaining the fees at Rs seven lakh.

With the hike at these two institutes coming as a surprise for IIM-C, it had also decided to step up the fees further causing a fear-pshycosis among the students.
