Hyundai to launch new "i20" by year-end

Mumbai, Apr 5 (UNI) Korean autocar maker Hyundai will launch its new passenger car, ''i20'', a larger version of its successful ''i10'', by year-end.

The new B-segment car which is undergoing final tests in Korea with contingent of 400 technicians from India will be produced in the company's Chennai plant, where new engine and transmission factories have been built for both the i10 and i20 cars. Production will start in the second-half of 2008.

Speaking at a press conference here, Hyundai Motors India MD and CEO Heung Soo Lheem said, ''the new car will meet all the EU safety and emmission standards, and our emmission rate of 119 gms/ km of carbon dioxide is one of the most environmentally friendly.'' Hyundai is also developing LPG versions of Santro and Accent, Mr Lheem added.

Shilpa Shetty conferred doctorate

Mumbai, July 18: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty was conferred an honorary doctorate by the Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. The doctorate was conferred upon the actress, who became a household name in Britain after winning the controversial 'Big Brother' reality show, at a student graduation ceremony, informed her spokesperson Dale Bagwagar.
