Engineers stop work in Manipur to protest murder

Imphal, Apr 05 (UNI) The engineers in Manipur today continued their ceasework following the murder of an Assistant Engineer of the state Public Works Department (PWD) by KCP (City Meitei) militants.

To protest the killing of Assistant Engineer K.Nabachandra by suspected militants on March 31, the PWD employees had decided to stop their duties from April 3 and continue with the ceasework until the miscreants responsible for committing the crime were arrested.

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh assured the engineers that adequate security would be provided to them.

Security escorts have been provided to those holding the ranks of Executive Engineers and above.

The engineers were also scheduled to discuss the issue with the state government later today.

Meanwhile, following the stir, the work in the state engineering department was affected.

Rice questions why Saudi might need nuke energy

Washington, Dec 16: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice today questioned why oil-rich Saudi Arabia might want nuclear power and said she wanted to know more about plans by Gulf states to study nuclear energy.
