CPI to launch movement against price rise

Bhubaneswar, Apr 5 (UNI) The CPI, an ally of the UPA government at the Centre, will launch a two-day-long statewide mass movement on April 17 and 18 against the Union government for its failure to check prices.

Party state secretary Dibakar Nayak told newspersons here that the party activists would stage demonstrations and launch civil disobedience movement in front of every block, tahasil, District Collector and Revenue Divisional Commissioner's office on these two days.

Mr Nayak said the decision to launch the countrywide movement was taken at the 20th party national convention held at Hyderabad from March 23 to 27.

He said the prices of essentials had gone up during due to wrong economic policy of the UPA government.

The prices of commodities went up by 20 per cent just after the presentation of the budget.

The total collapse of Public Distribution system, hoarding of goods by big traders, future trading of goods and black marketing of essential commodities led to the rise in prices, he said.

The CPI leader also alleged that due to the wrong policy of the UPA government, the productivity of foodgrains had declined and the food security was in danger.

He said instead of giving right price to the farmers the government was importing foodgrains from outside.

Mr Nayak said the movement was organised to force the government to take proactive steps to control the prices of essential commodities, strengthen the PDS, increase food production and food stock.
