Ban future trading on agri-products to arrest inflation: Assocham

New Delhi, Apr 5 (UNI) Industry body Assocham today urged the government to ban the future trading on agri-products and increase the supply side to arrest the record three-year high inflation of seven per cent.

''We urge the government to urgently ban the future trading on agri-goods at least for 2-3 months which will help improve our supply side,'' Assocham President V N Dhoot told reporters here.

He added that the government should also ban the export of some agri-products that will make them available and encourage the production side.

Mr Dhoot said in Europe whenever the inflation inches up, their governments ban the export in order to contain the inflation.

However, he expected that the country's inflation will go up to 7.5 per cent by next month, but is very hopeful that it will come down to four per cent by August this year, if the government takes all necessary measures in time.

The headline inflation rate for the week ended March 22 surged to a three year high at 7.0 per cent, compared to its previous week's level of 6.68 per cent, on account of higher food and metal prices.
