Mumbai, Mar 19: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is preparing a stage, measuring 240 feet long, at the historical Shivaji Park Maidan in Northcentral Mumbai to celebrate Chhatrapati Shivaji Jayanti on Monday. MNS office-bearer Sandeep Deshpande said the construction of a 240-foot stage has already been started at the Shivaji Park.
Renowned writer Babasaheb Purandare and music director Hridainath Mangeshkar will perform a programme at the historical maidan. The party has also organised a famous drama called 'Janta Raja' for half-an-hour, which has already completed hundreds of shows across the state. The programme will commence at around 1830 hrs, he said, adding around 40,000 to 50,000 people are expected to take part in the celebration from across the state.
This is the first programme of the party after restriction imposed on its chief Raj Thackeray last month by the city police from holding public rallies, meetings and press conference in wake of the riots that erupted following provocative remarks made by Mr Thackeray against north Indians.
Political experts are of the opinion that MNS may try to show their strength in the state through these celebrations.
