7 years imprisonment for bribery

Thrissur, Mar 17: A vigilance court here today sentenced former Assistant Secretary of the Thrissur Corporation S S Gopalakrishnan to seven years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 in a bribery case.

Vigilance Judge P Q Barkkathali also sentenced the convict to undergo three months rigorous imprisonment, if he failed to remit the fine. According to the prosecution, the accused had accepted Rs 1,000 as bribe from one Kalleriparmbil Abdhu Rehman, to change the single phase electric connection of his welding institution to three phase without following proper procedures.

Bangalore, Feb 12: Cauvery, is termed by Indian constitution, as an interstate river. It rises at Talakaveri on the Brahmagiri hills in Western Ghats and flows through Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and parts of Puducherry. Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT), a tribunal set up 17 years ago, to decide on a dispute over sharing water from the River in Southern India has announced its verdict on Feb 5, 2007. In its five-volume order containing about 1000 pages, the tribunal awarded 419tmc.....

3-day-old baby mauled to death by stray dog

Kottayam, May 23: In a gruesome incident, a new born infant was mauled by a stray dog at Manarcadu here yesterday.According to the police, the local people in the area found the body of the baby being dragged by the dog.The postmortem revealed that the body was of a three-day-old baby girl, the sources said, adding the baby was suffocated to death immediately after its birth.It was suspected that the baby might have been abandoned by.....
