MHIP aids to famine-affected families

Aizawl, Mar 12: Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the state's largest women's body, today submitted Rs 12423990 bags of rice and four bags of clothes to the state Famine Relief Emergency Committee chairman and home minister Tawnluia as a relief to the Mautam famine-affected families.

The aid submitted today has been received from only 44 of the 90 MHIP branches within the city, and more aid is pouring in, an MHIP source said.

Tawnluia highly appreciated the generosity of the women group and that of different churches, individuals and NGOs in helping the needy in time of crisis. He informed that the total amount of money received from individuals and group has reached Rs 2,59,622.

Thanking the MHIP for its contribution, relief committee vice-chairman and food minister K Sangthuama reassured that the government is taking every possible effort to ensure food security in the state.

Jardine pitches in for pvt enterprise in Mizoram

Aizawl, Aug 29: US Consul General in Kolkata Henry Jardine today expressed concern over absence of private enterprises in Mizoram which have resulted in heavy dependence on the government.
