MNF-UG 'nexus' likely to take centre-stage in session

Aizawl, Mar 12: The alleged nexus between the ruling Mizo National Front and underground outfits of the neighbouring state is likely to take centre-stage in the ongoing budget session.

The assembly inquiry committee, constituted last year to probe the alleged nexus, is to submit its report to assembly speaker Lalchamlianahim soon for discussion in the house, committee chairman Saikapthianga said today. The allegations of the MNF government's nexus with insurgent groups was made in the assembly during last budget session by opposition Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) president and Ratu legislator Lalduhoma and Congress member R Lalzirliana.

The inquiry committee was constituted by Lalchamliana in April last at the request of chief minister Zoramthanga and home minister Tawnluia, appointing Saikapthianga, former minister and member of MNF's ally Mizoram Congress Party (MCP).

However, all the opposition legislators, appointed as members of the inquiry committee, resigned after their demand to the appointment of an opposition member as chairman of the committee was rejected by the speaker.
