Dhaka, Mar 10: Biman Bangladesh Airlines will purchase eight Boeing aircraft at a cost of 1.265 billion dollars to revamp the country's lone dilapidated airline.
Biman will sign an MOU with Boeing representatives here on March 15, Chief Advisor's special assistant for Civil Aviation Mahbub Zamil told reporters here today. Presently, Biman has 11 wide bodied aircraft but only five or six are operating in international routes, Mr Zamil said. Of the eight Boeings, the first consignment of four aircraft will be arriving here in 2013 and the second consignment in 2017, he added.
Before arrival of the new aircraft, the Biman procures four aircraft on lease - one Boeing and three 747 aircraft. Biman, which was a huge losing concern as a state-run national flag career, was transformed into a public limited company in July last year.
