New Delhi, Mar 6: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has accepted the resignation of Mr S M Krishna as Governor of Maharashtra.

Goa Governor S C Jamir has been asked to discharge the functions of the Maharashtra Governor in addition to his own duties, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said today. Mr Jamir will hold the additional responsibility until regular arrangements are made for the office of the Governor of Maharashtra, it said. The former Karnataka Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader had put in his papers yesterday, reportedly for taking up political work again, ahead of the assembly elections in his state.
