Port Blair, Mar 5: The Andaman and Nicobar police have apprehended nine Myanmarese suspected-poachers, who entered middle Andaman region last night.

All the Myanmarese poachers were arrested from the Creek near Hiran Tirkry of Kadamtala village of middle Andaman.

''Following a tip-off, our police team, along with jawans of Indian Reserve Battalion and Forest Personnel, jointly carried out an anti-poaching exercise and completed the mission, Superintendent of Police in Andaman Ashok Chand told UNI today.

The team also seized an dinghy of poachers, along with 10 kg of Sea Cucumber, poached from Andaman Sea.

The Myanmarese poachers, along with the seized properties, have been brought to Port Blair today for initiating necessary legal action against them.

The islands are located about 1,200 km east of the Indian mainland, close to the Malacca Strait, the main sea lane between the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea.

Home to some of the world's pristine beaches and rare corals, the waters have prized fish and sea cucumbers that can fetch huge money in Japan and China for their medicinal properties.

The poachers usually come in small boats at night and escape in bigger vessels that are lurking outside India's territorial waters.

The poachers are taking away our marine resources like valuable fishes, killing sharks and destroying corals.
