UPA Govt to write off small farmers loans: Bhattal

Jalandhar, Feb 21 (UNI) The UPA Government in principle has decided to waive off loans of Punjab farmers, said Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Rajinder Kaur Bhattal here today.

Talking to media persons this afternoon, Mrs Bhattal said that Congress led UPA Government at the Centre had decided to waive off loans of the state farmers, whose land holding are not more than five acres. The announcement in this regard would be made soon, she added.

Mrs Battal informed that state Congress would be organising a thanks giving rally on February 25 in Delhi and submit a charter of demand of farm labourers and other people associated with farming to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Nearly 20,000 Congress workers from Punjab would be taking part in the rally, she said.

The Congress would observe March 1, the first anniversary of SAD-BJP governement in Punjab, as 'Black Day', she said, adding that on this day, party workers would protest at all district headquarters. And also a state-level rally would be organised at Ludhiana against the policies of the state government.

Regarding the restructuring of the party in Punjab, she said that organisational restructuring, which was delayed, would be done after the ensuing Vidhan Sabha Session.
