UDF to intensify agitations against price hike: Thankachan

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 21 (UNI) The Congress-led Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala would accelerate the ongoing agitations against the price hike of essential commodities and the controversial HMT land deal, both inside and outside the Assembly, its convener P P Thankachan said today.

Talking to newspersons here, after a high-level meeting, Mr Thankachan said the UDF had decided to intensify the agitations and took it into the Assembly, which began yesterday, in a democratic manner to achieve their charter of demands.

Though the Opposition had demanded Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthandan to find a solution to their problems like price hike, corruption of in the ministry, unemployment and failure of protecting minorities, the LDF government had miserably failed it, he alleged.

The youth wing of the party would organise a march to the State Legislative Assembly on March 17, to press these demands, he added.

Justifying the hartal called by the UDF protesting against the spiralling of price hike yesterday, he said the Opposition had informed it to the government as well as to all political parties well ahead of 21 days. If the Chief Minister had taken inititatives, the hartal could have been avoided, he added.
