Two sports academies,1720 physical teachers being recruited in J

Srinagar, Feb 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to set up two sports academies and also recruit 1720 physical teachers in the state.

Meanwhile, all arrangements were being finalised to host the 62nd National Football tournament for Santosh trophy in the month of May this year.

Sports and Youth Services Minister Haji Nisar Ali said one each academy will be set up at Jammu and Srinagar.

The minister said about 1720 Physical Teachers would be recruited on the pattern of Rehbar-e-Taleem to introduce sports from the grass root level.

He said during the current year Rs 47.25 lakh had been utilized on purchase of sports goods benefiting 1.26 lakh sports persons.

As many as 278 players from the Jammu and Kashmir took part in national games while as 2311 players in state level tournaments during the current year, he added.

The prestigious 62nd Santosh trophy would be conducted here from May 25 this year for which all arrangements are being made.

The Championship would be held in the Kashmir valley for the second time after a gap of 30 years. it was earlier held in 1978.

Thackeray dares Lalu to perform Chhat Puja in Chennai

Mumbai, Feb 21 : Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray has challenged Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to perform the 'Chhat Puja' on the Marina Beach in Chennai and to oppose the Tamil Nadu Government's ordinance to make Tamil compulsory in schools across the State. Reacting to Lalu's recent statement that he would come and celebrate Chhat Puja in Mumbai, Thackeray said: "Lalu who has turned Bihar into a hell, should hold a mela of Biharis in Tamil Nadu ruled by.....
