Sonia Gandhi meets farmers, seeks debt waiver

New Delhi, Feb 21 : Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi met farmers here today and urged the government to provide debt relief to them.

"Our main demand from the government is that farmers be accorded loan waiver. We are also seeking relief against loss suffered due to crops like mustard destroyed in the harsh winter this year," said Pandurangji Raut, farmer from Pune.

The UPA Chairperson lent a patient ear to their pleas.

The farmers had come to the capital to participate in an interactive programme ahead of the budget.
