Shiv Sena to celebrate 'Marathi Day' on Feb 27

Mumbai, Feb 21: Shiv Sena will celebrate ''Marathi Bhasha Divas (Marathi language day)'' on the birth anniversary of veteran Marathi litterateur and Jnanpith awardee V W Shirwadkar on February 27.

Talking to reporters, Sena leader Subhash Desai said there will be programmes and symposiums for the whole day in which eminent Marathi personalities will participate. An exhibition, sale of Marathi books and a programme on the life of late Shirwadkar will be organised during the day. In the evening, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray will address the gathering on the occasion. Meanwhile, Mr Desai questioned why the name of Bombay High Court has not been changed to Mumbai High Court.

When asked whether Shiv Sena was organising Marathi oriented programmes after Raj Thackeray raised a storm on the issue of Marathi speaking people, Mr Desai denied it and said the programme was chalked out in December, much before Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had raised the issue.
