Privilege notice against IOB R Dir and Dir of Finance

Bhubaneswar,Feb 21 (UNI) The Oppostion Congress today moved a privilege motion against Indian Overseas Bank(IOB) Chief Regional Director N K Mohanty and Director of Finance R K Mishra for interfering in the business of the House.

Raising the issue at zero hour, Congress member Umesh Swain said the IOB Chief Regional Director and the Director of Finance have breached the privilege of the House by interfering in its business and appealed to Deputy Speaker Prahlad Dora to admit the motions and take suitable action against them.

Mr Swain said while Agriculture Minister Surendranath Naik in response to an adjournment motion had already ordered a fresh inquiry into the suicide of Pramod Kumar Sahu, a farmer of Barahagoda village in Baragarha district, and assured to submit a report in the House, Mr Mishra and Mr Mohanty denied Mr Sahu's suicide following loan burden at a press conference here yesterday.

The officers insisted that Pramod Sahu had never sought nor was he granted any loan from the Baragarha branch of the Bank.

Mr Swain said as the issue was pending before the Assembly, the officers had no right to interfere. The clarification amounted to interference in the supremacy of the House, he added.

Mr Ramachandra Ulaka, Mr Sitakanta Mohapatra and Mr Satya Bhushan Sahu, also the signatories to the privilege notice, shared the views of Mr Swain.

Mr Satya Bhushan Sahu (Cong) said the clarification was a conspiracy by the bureaucracy to dilute the main issue.

Mr Baidhar Mallick (BJP) appealed to the Deputy Speaker to admit the privilege notice against the Director of Indian Medicine for appointing general candidates in 96 posts meant for SC/ST candidates after dereserving the posts.

He said the dereservation was made ignoring the objection made by the SC/ST department and violating the ORV Act and appealed to the Deputy Speaker to accept the privilege notice.

After listening to the members, the Deputy Speaker said appropriate action would be taken after examining the privilege notices.
