Macca bags 'Outstanding Contribution' honour at Brits Awards

London, February 21 : Sir Paul McCartney was greeted with rapturous applause when he received the popular award for 'Outstanding Contribution to Music' at the Brit Awards 2008 at London's Earls Court.

The former 'Beatle' star also closed the ceremony with a medley of his greatest hit songs that included 'Hey Jude', 'Lady Madonna', and 'Live and Let Die'.

McCartney had earlier refused to receive the award, expressing his belief that it would give an impression that his creative days were over.

However, while accepting the award, he said that he was really very pleased to be honoured.

He also said that he was thrilled that people of all ages were still buying his records as well as those of 'The Beatles'.

"It's human instinct to feel good when we get an award or any kind of praise, because it's validation. When people like what you are doing it's a big deal," the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

"It's wonderful to get an award. It could go to anyone but I'm getting it and I'm very chuffed. It's much appreciated," he added.
