Jailor convicted for supplying drugs in jail

Ghazipur, Feb 21 (UNI) A local court pronounced one-and-a-half-year rigorous imprisonment and slapped a Rs 1,000 penalty on a jailor for supplying illicit-liqour and drugs in jail.

In 2003, the local intelligence bureau reported to the then District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) about the illicit supply of drugs and liquor in the Ghazipur prison under the shelter of the then jailor SS Yadav and other jail personnel.

On Nov 9, 2003, raids were conducted in the jail, where 100 and 500 gms heroin and opium respectively were yielded from Yadav's bag, besides retriving several liquor bottles from the jail premises.

On July 31, 2007, the then city court judge Om Prakash found the jailor guilty under sections 109, 117, 224 and 504, however, he was given a clean chit under NDPS Act.

No sentence was awarded as Mr Yadav remained absent during the proceedings, however, the judge issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Yesterday, the Fast Track Court judge (II) Shiv Shankar Pandey convicted Yadav and imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000.

He would have to serve an additional one month imprisonment, if the penalty amount remained unpaid.

Later, Yadav, presently posted at Agra, was released on bail.
