Islamic leaders condemn treatment meted out to Muslims

Deoband, UP, Feb 21 (UNI) Islamic leaders today took strong exception to the way the image of the Muslim community was being maligned on the issue of terrorism without any firm ground.

Famous Islamic educational institution Darul Uloom Deoband's rector Maulana Marghoobur Rahman said its national seminar on February 25 will highlight the issue and discuss its consequences threadbare.

Addressing a press conference here, rectors of the institution -- Maulana kari Usman and Maulana Abdul Khalik Madrasi -- and Nagar Palika Secretary Mohammad Habib Siddi said Darul Uloom Deoband was one of the world's famous institution and the way security agencies were keeping a close watch on its activities was ''uncalled for''.

The Ulema said conspiracies were being hatched to tarnish the image of Muslims.

''Darul Ulema has always condemned terrorism in all its forms.

Yet, the institution is targetted,'' the leaders said.

The seminar will pass a resolution against terrorism and will condemn the nefarious designs of the conspirators who were behind maligning the image of Muslims in the country, the leaders informed.

Around 5000 madarsa representatives from across the country will participate in the seminar.

After the seminar, a high-level delegation will apprise Prime Minister Manmohan singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil of their stand.
