DUTA seeks VC intervention in removing Stephen's principal

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) today sought Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental's intervention in resolving the St Stephen's issue and ensure compliance of University norms by the college.

The appointment of St Stephen's OSD (Officiating Principal) Valson Thampu has been challenged by the University which has termed it illegal.

The University says, Mr Thampu does not have the academic eligibility for the position and has been illegally appointed by the College Governing body.

DUTA President Aditya Narayan Misra said, the Vice Chancellor had agreed to consider their demand for expansion of college governing body.

He said DUTA conveyed to the VC that conducting of University's annual examination for St Stephen's students under the superintendentship of Mr Thampu would violate the sanctity of the examinations.

''The Governing Body of St Stephen's College is trying to victimise teachers of the college so as to detract attention from the demand for removal of illegally appointed OSD Mr Thampu,'' he added.

To press for their demands, DUTA will hold a sit-in outside the college tomorrow when the Governing Body of the College is scheduled to meet.
