Greater Noida, Feb 21 (UNI) Shiv Prasad Chowrasia, winner of the last month's Indian master, came down to earth with a big thud as he failed to make the cut while Jyoti Randhawa fired a superb 4-under par 68 and alongside Australia's Tony Carolan led the field at the end of the second round of the SAIL Open golf here today.
It was a stunning upset as Shiv Prasad Chowrasia (72, 74) failed to make it to the money making round. He crashed out with a total of two over 146 (tied 75th).
Nothing went right for the 29-year-old Kolkatan who made two birdies- on the 13th and fifth but had double bogeys on the 18th and third and finished low down the leaderboard at joint 75th place.
Twenty one Indians were among the 74 golfers who made the cut which was pplied at one over 145. All the 21 are the members of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).
Jyoti Randhawa was in great form as he climbed from overnight tied third to joint leader. His 68 took his total to nine under 135 (67,68).
Randhawa's front nine had seven pars, a birdie on the fourth and a lone bogey on the fifth. Then on the back nine he picked up the pace with three consecutive birdies on the 10th, 11th, 12th and another one on the 15th.
Australian Tony Carolan (66, 69) who shared the lead with Randhawa made four birdies and a bogey in this round.
Dinesh Kumar returned a brilliant 69 to take his total to seven under 137. He is currently tied fourth and has the second best score amongst all Indians after Jyoti Randhawa.
The Delhi-based golfer's round was punctuated by birdies on the 11th, 15th, 17th, first second and fifth and bogeys on the 16th, 18th and third.
Gaganjeet Bhullar (70, 68), currently eighth on the PGTI Order of Merit for 2007-08, finished round two in tied eighth at six under 138. Bhullar birdied the 12th and second and then sank an incredible eagle on the par five fourth. Bhullar, highly satisfied with his bogey-free round, said, Harendra Gupta (69, 70), ended the day in tied 15th position at five under 139.
Gupta was one under at the turn after making birdies on the fourth and eighth and dropping a bogey on the sixth.
The Chandigarh golfer had a cracking start on the back nine with birdies on the 10th, 11th and 13th. However, he fell back due to bogeys on the 14th and 16th. On both these occasions he found the bunker. Ashok Kumar (70, 69) ended day two in tied 15th along with Harendra.
Carolan continued his steady run with a 69 for a nine-under- par 135 total and was two strokes ahead of compatriot Scott Hend who carded a 70. Malaysia's Danny Chia posted a 69 and remained in the hunt alongside the big hitting Hend.
Filipino Angelo Que and Noh Seung-yul of Korea remained close behind after posting matching 70s alongside Thai youngster Panuwat Muenlek who improved with a strong 67 for a 138 total.
Rahil Gangjee (73, 74) missed the cut as he had a total of three over 147. Gaurav Ghei (72, 79) also failed to make the cut. His total stood at seven over 151.
The other prominent names to miss the cut were Harmeet Kahlon, C Muniyappa and Shamim Khan.
