ATMA turns farming into profitable venture

Chandigarh, Feb 21 (UNI) With the help of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), the progressive farmers of Haryana have proved that growing crop was still a highly profitable venture.

The collective efforts of the constituents of ATMA have given a new energy and direction to the farmers of the state and the project, initially being implemented in six districts, has now been extended to the remaining 14 districts of the state.

The project aims at bringing co-ordination and integrated approach among various Line Departments, Research Organisations, NGOs and Agencies associated with Agriculture Development.

Farmers' Advisory Committees comprising of 12 to 15 farmers are constituted at the divisional level as autonomous institution under ATMA Project to provide flexible working environment involving all the stakeholders in planning and implementation of extension activities. It caters to activities in agriculture and allied sectors adopting a farming system approach and convergence of programmes of related departments. Financial assistance is also being provided to farmers for extension activities in agriculture and allied sectors such as dairy, poultry and fisheries. Under the project farmers were awarded at state, district and division level for their outstanding work and were taken on exposure tour to other areas.

Anand Pawar enters second round in the Austrian International

Bangalore, Feb 21 (UNI) Anand Pawar, a trainee of TATA Padukone Badminton Academy, who missed selection into the Tomas Cup Badminton Team, has staged an upset win over Swedish No.1 player Magnus Sahlberg in the Austrian International Championships 2008, which is in progress at Vienna. Anand beat the top Swede in straight games at 21-14,21-13, according to report reaching the Academy here today. He will now play the local favorite and number 1.....

HC asks UDF constituents to file affidavits on hartal violence

Kochi, Feb 21 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the constituents of the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) to file affidavits over 'allegations of wide spread violence' during the hartal on February 19. The Division Bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice K M Joseph asked the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Communist Marxist Party (CMP) and Kerala Congress (M) to file affidavits on a petition filed by the 'Anti-hartal campaign.....

30 farmers held for scuffle with police

Fatehpur, Feb 21: As many 30 farmers were today arrested for last night's firing on the district court premises here. Several policemen were among over 24 people wounded in the firing between police and farmers at the district court. According to Superintendent of Police K S Pippal, farmers' leader Narsingh Patel had been given permission for day's agitation at the district court.
