Asian Clay Shooting kicks off from tomorrow

Jaipur, Feb 21 (UNI) Defending champion Manavjeet Singh and Ronjan Sodhi will start their campaign from tomorrow in the Asian Clay Shooting Championship at the Jagatpura shooting range.

Manavjeet Singh, who is trap shooter will face the tough fight against Kuwait and Qatar while Ronjan Sodhi, who was very disappointed here because he did not get much cartridge from the National Rifle Association of India (NRI) for the practice said that he is hopeful to do his best in the championship.

Baljeet Singh Sethi, secretary general of NRI said that India is the champion in trap event, which will play on Friday while got silver medal in the double trap.

Star shooter of the city Rajyavardan Singh Rathore are expected to come to part in the championship on Saturday. A total 148 shooters including 34 of India were participating in the championship. As many as 14 countries are taking part.

Today, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has inaugurated the tournamnt. NRI president Digvijay Singh, Asian Shooting Confederation technical chairman B Bunnag and Urban Minister Surendra Goyal were also present on the occasion.

Basant Bahadur creates new National record

Patiala, Feb 21 (UNI) Unheralded armyman Basant Bahadur set a new National record in the men's 50 km walk in the Ist Indian Athletic Grand Prix here today. Bahadur finished the event in 4::10:42, bettering Gurdev Singh's (4::16:22) three year old record by six minutes. National Cricket Championship for disabled kees off

Lucknow, Feb 21 (UNI) The third National Cricket Championship for the disabled was inaugurated at the KD Singh Babu Stadium with fanfare here today. The three-day national championship is being organised jointly by Indian Cricket Federation for the Disabled (ICFD) and Mobility India, in which 18 teams from different states are taking part. Total ban on export of iron ore demanded

Kolkata, Feb 21(UNI) Trade union leaders, steel executives and industrialists today demanded a total ban on export of iron ore from the country and formulation of a national policy on mineral resources. Expressing concern at the 'indiscriminate' export of iron ore --100 million tons every year--they apprehended at a national convention that the practice would lead to exhaustion of the current effective reserve of nine billion tons of usable iron ore in the next two.....
