AP House adjourned twice for 15 minutes

Hyderabad, Feb 21: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned twice for 15 minutes as the opposition parties today stalled the proceedings to press their demands.

The trouble started when Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announced that he was disallowing the adjournment motions of the TDP on classical language status for Telugu, the TRS on House resolution for separate Telangana, the CPI on price rise and CPI(M) on non-allocation of funds in the Budget in proportion to population for the SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities.

The agitated TRS, CPI and CPI(M) members rushed to the Speaker's podium and raised slogans to press their demands.

Stating that the state government had taken up the issue of granting classical language status to Telugu, the Speaker repeatedly appealed the TDP members to take their seats.

Following pandemonium, the Speaker initially adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

When the House reassembled, the opposition party members insisted that the listed business for the day be set aside and an immediate discussion be allowed on the issues raised by them.

As repeated appeals fell on deaf ears, the Speaker again adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
