218 candidates in fray for Nagaland Assembly polls

Kohima, Feb 21 (UNI) Altogether 218 candidates are in the fray for 60 Assembly constituencies in Nagaland after the withdrawal of nomination papers yesterday for the March five elections in the state.

A release, issued here today by the Chief Electoral Office, stated that Dimapur Electoral district had a total of 17 candidates, Peren had four, Kohima 21, Pughoboto three, Phek 15, Mokokchung 33, Zunheboto 14, Wokha 28, Mon 28, Longleng 11, Tuensang 34 and Kiphire 10.

The party-wise break up is Congress (60), Nagaland Peoples Front (56), Nationalist Congress Party (eight), BJP (23), JD(U) (three), JD(S) (four), United Naga Democratic Party (two), RJD (25), LJP (three), Adarsh Political Party (one) and Independents (33), the release stated.
