Widow held for poisoning teenaged sons

Nagpur, Feb 19 (UNI) Police have arrested a widow for allegedly poisoning her two teenaged sons to death here after the revelation that she having an illicit affair.

Geeta Wadekar, was arrested yesterday last night after she confessed that she had spiked the morning tea of her sons with an insecticide, police sources said.

The two boys, Mayur Bhagwan Wadekar (16) and Ritesh Bhagwan Wadekar (14), began vomiting soon after consuming the tea, and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital later in the day.

The police had found a container of insecticide in the premises of the house, where the family lives and had taken Geeta in for interrogation. After intense questioning, Geeta told admitted she had decided to kill her sons as they got to know of an illicit affair that she was having with a man from the neighbourhood, the sources said.

She had also decided to consume the poison herself, but was unable to do so, Geeta told the police. The man, identified as 'Sanjay,' has also been questioned, the sources added.

Geeta had lost her husband nearly 13 years back.
