Uproot BJP from MP: Pachouri

Hoshangabad, MP, Feb 19 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee's newly-appointed president Suresh Pachouri today gone a clarion call to party workers to uproot the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime from the state.

While addressing a public meeting here prior to a Janakrosh rally, Mr Pachouri slammed the state government's alleged oppression, corruption and anti-people policies.

This was Mr Pachouri's first such meeting after assuming his post.

''The Congress is united and the opposition parties are in a tizzy after viewing the combination of Human Resource Development Minister and former Chief Minister Arjun Singh, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamalnath, Minister of State for Agriculture Kantilal Bhuria and Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia. The BJP regime is obstructing Madhya Pradesh's development,'' he said.

Claiming that the Centre's United Progressive Alliance government was providing maximum assistance to this state, Mr Pachouri alleged that the BJP had forgotten the power, water and roads issues on which it rode to power in 2003.

''The imported red wheat supplied to Madhya Pradesh is of good quality and if Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has any complaint then he should take action against the state officials who approved the wheat,'' he added.

The Congress' Madhya Pradesh incharge V Narayanasamy alleged of rampant corruption in the state government and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jamuna Devi spoke of a spurt in harassment of women. More than 1,000 workers led by Ms Devi courted arrest in front of the collectorate.
