Tiruchirapalli, Feb 19: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will shortly release an exclusive Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME ) policy focussing on skill and infrastructure development, according to Commissioner for Industries Rajeev Ranjan.
Speaking at a function here last night, he said the industries could take advantage of the policy aimed at promotion for sustained growth.
With the country's current growth at eight per cent poised to grow further to ten per cent by the end of the 11th plan, sustaining the growth rate was a challenge, he said and added that there was a need for benchmarking productivity.
Stating that there was an urgent need to revamp and standardise labour laws to enhance productivity, Mr Ranjan, who is also Industries Development Director said there was a mismatch between skill availability and requirement.
He said the National Strategy for Manufacturing initiated by the Union Government was aimed at addressing the issues of cost competitiveness, skill building, innovation and research and development.
