School curriculum to have organic farming

Bhubaneswar, Feb 19 (UNI) The Orissa government is initiating steps to introduce organic farming as a subject in the school curriculum, Agriculture Minister Surendranath Naik informed the Assembly today.

Replying to a question of BJP member Pratap Chandra Sarangi, he said the government was also imparting free training to the farmers for the development of organic farming.

Mr Naik said 50 per cent subsidy (maximum Rs 10,000) will be given for setting up of a big Vermi Compost Unit (VSU) and Rs 2000 for small one.

So far, he said, the government had given training to 100 farmers and produced 68.274 tonnes of organic fertiliser at a concessional rate.

As many as 1270 farmers were given incentives for the setting up of VCUs, he said.
