Sangliana ready to assume role of facilitator with militants

Shillong, Feb 19 (UNI) Karnataka supercop-turned-MP H T Sangliana today said he was ready to act as a ''facilitator'' between North East-based militants and the Centre.

'' I am always ready to help anyone to restore peace in North Eastern states, '' Mr Sangliana, leading the BJP's campaign trail for the March three Assembly elections in Meghalaya, said.

Mr Sangliana, a Mizo IPS officer from the Northeast, went on to win the Bangalore North MP constituency seat from Karnataka, following his extraordinary achievement in countering dreaded sandalwood smuggler Veerapan, which led to the smuggler's ultimate death.

'' Some of the Manipur-based militant groups have met me and I suggested them to eschew the path of violence to fulfil their desires, '' he revealed.

He also said, '' The political aspiration of a sovereign nation has no end. It is democratic right to an opinion. '' Urging the militants to shun the path of violence, the supercop said the militants must realise that fighting against the mighty Indian forces was easier as said than done.

The Mizo National Front gave up their struggle for sovereign nation after facing the heat of the Armed forces, he said.

'' I have also told TH Muviah to come and ascend the Chief Minister's seat in Nagaland and develop the state with his own ideas, during one of my interactions with him. But individual expectations have left him astray, '' Mr Sangliana stated.

Observing the violent northeast scenario as a feeling of alienation giving rise to militancy, the Mizo IPS officer said the feeling of ''Indianess'' needed to be inculcated within the people of Northeast.

'' It's imperative that everyone in the Northeast realiseS themselves as Indians and compete with fellow Indians on a level playing field. Only than this disparity would be done away with, '' the BJP MP said.
