Poultry deaths in MP

Tikamgarh, MP, Feb 19 (UNI) Hundreds of birds died over a week at about 40 poultry farms in this district's Berbar village where a Veterinary Department team was sent today.

''Samples will be sent to Bhopal,'' said Dr B B Tripathi, posted in Jatar tahsil.

Jatara's Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dileep Mandavi said that the district administration had been alerted.

MP seeks central assistance of Rs 1,548 cr

Bhopal, Feb 19 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government has sought central assistance of Rs 1,548.91 crore for drought relief. A memorandum in this regard was presented, at a meeting with state government officers here today, to a central team -- led by Joint Secretary (Agriculture) S L Patnayak -- that arrived here to assess the drought situation, an official release said. Panaji, Feb 19 (UNI) The sit-in 'dharna' in front of the Panjim police station by Taleigao legislator and former Goa minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate and his followers turned violent tonight, with police resorting to lathicharge and bursting of teargas shells here. The North Goa district police Superintendent Neraj Kumar Thakur told UNI that police repulsed violence and brought the situation under control after the mob petted stones and attempting to storm the police station. Tourist guide commits suicide in Paharganj guest house

New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) A 30-year-old tourist guide from West Bengal today committed suicide at a guest house in central Delhi, police said. Ranjit Mandal was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room at Darshan Palace guest house in Paharganj at about 1000 hours, police said. A resident of Bengal, Ranjit had arrived from Bengal a few days ago along with a group of tourists and booked accommodation in the guest house. UNI AR.....

Monserrate, wife and Panaji Mayor Tony arrested

Panaji, Feb 19 (UNI) Taleigao legislator Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate, his wife and North Goa Zilla Parishad member Jennifer and city Mayor Tony Rodrigues were taken into custody late tonight for allegedly inciting violence in front of the Panjim police station, where they had staged a 'dharna' (sit-in) demanding suspension of an Inspector for encouraging goons. Ms Jennifer, who entered into an argument with police after violence broke out was first taken into custody, followed by.....
