OPCB serves closure notice on Bhusan Power

Sambalpur, Feb 19 (UNI) The Orissa Pollution Control Board(OPCB) has served a closure notice on the Bhusan Power and Steels Limited located at Thelkuli, 40 km from here.

The regional office of the OPCB here has served closure notice on the unit yesterday. The plant would be shut down phase-wise and No Objection Certificate (NOC) would be issued for the second phase construction of the plant, till it complies with all suggestions as per norms, OPCB Regional Officer S K Sahu said.

He said, ''Since last four years we have been suggesting the unit stick to the norms but the company failed and we have no other option but to take a bold step in the greater interest of the people and locality,'' Mr Sahu said.

Massive irregularities apart, solid waste management and dust problems were the major problems with Bhusan Steels and Power, he added.

Assn demands completion of Govt Medical college

Puducherry,Feb 19: The Puducherry Medical Colleges Students-Parents Association (PMCSPA) today urged the administration to take steps to complete the construction of the government medical college here and commence admissions in the coming academic year itself. Three trapped drainage workers rescued

Panaji, Feb 19 (UNI) Three drainage workers, who were trapped in a deep sewerage trench after earth caved in, had a miraculous escape with the timely action of the fire brigade team at St Inez area here today. The entire rescue operation took about an hour. It became a herculean task for the fire brigade personnel to remove the last worker, who was stuck neck deep. He was safely lifted after he was given an oxygen.....

Centre Approves Luxury Train For Andhra
