MP seeks central assistance of Rs 1,548 cr

Bhopal, Feb 19 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government has sought central assistance of Rs 1,548.91 crore for drought relief.

A memorandum in this regard was presented, at a meeting with state government officers here today, to a central team -- led by Joint Secretary (Agriculture) S L Patnayak -- that arrived here to assess the drought situation, an official release said.

As many as 37 of 48 districts were reeling under drought, the release added.

Tourist guide commits suicide in Paharganj guest house

New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) A 30-year-old tourist guide from West Bengal today committed suicide at a guest house in central Delhi, police said. Ranjit Mandal was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room at Darshan Palace guest house in Paharganj at about 1000 hours, police said. A resident of Bengal, Ranjit had arrived from Bengal a few days ago along with a group of tourists and booked accommodation in the guest house. UNI AR.....

Maharashtra: Police to set up state security council

Pune, Feb 19: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today announced that following the recent Supreme Court directives, the government will set up the State Security Council with the aim of giving autonomy to the state police force.
