Adelaide, Feb 19 (UNI) Former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody, who has been appointed coach of the Mohali franchise in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL), has said he would like to have retiring Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist in his team.
The 42-year-old Australian believes that Gilchrist will be one of the most sought-after players in the IPL now that he has retired from all forms of cricket in Australia.
''The best way to answer that is to say that every franchise would be looking to secure him,'' Moody said of his desire to recruit his former WA and Australian team-mate.
''We're not any different to any other franchise.'' ''Obviously there are a couple of appeals with Gilly. The first is he's an outstanding cricketer but he also brings a lot of stability off the field to the team as well. This is important, particularly given your team is made up with players from a whole lot of different backgrounds,'' he added. ''The other attraction is he's available so you know you're going to have him for the whole tournament for the three years.
''You can guarantee with his professionalism he won't let things slip too far in retirement, or semi-retirement.'' Gilchrist will be one of the most expensive in the IPL auction of 89 cricketers, including up to 16 Australians, to be held in Mumbai tomorrow.
