Washington, Feb 19 : The US media is closely keeping a track on February 18 elections in Pakistan, and is especially keen to analyse its impact on future Government policies on combating terrorism. All major American newspapers and news channels are not only covering the poll, but are also giving expert opinions on it.

CNN talked about the importance of the elections in context of US-Pakistan anti-terror cooperation. The experts said the public had sharply turned against terrorism so votes would be important in deciding the country's future. The Fox News channel said the elections were peaceful in Pakistan.
"The shape of the new government will effect the future shape of war on terror," the Daily Times quoted a Fox News correspondent, as saying. The Washington Post has done two stories on the elections, stressing on the importance of fair and transparent elections and the reasons behind United States' deep interest in the elections.

USA Today gave a headline to their news story "Pakistan voters defy threats", reporting the security situation in the wake of elections in the country.
The Los Angeles Times gave a headline "Pakistan polls close; no major attacks" as it praised the people of Pakistan who cast votes despite threats of violence.

The sub headline "A campaign marked by bombings and an assassination is capped by an election day free of major attacks" was given to the news story. The New York Times and The Christian Science Monitor also printed the Pakistan polls stories with pictures on their front page.
