Infosys to increase footprint in Japan, signs up with Nihon Unisys

Bangalore, Feb 19 (UNI) Eyeing non-US markets following the recent turbulence in the world's biggest economy, India's second largest software exporter Infosys Technologies today said that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan's Nihon Unisys for a marketing alliance.

The two companies would leverage Infosys' global delivery model to market software solutions, product development and maintenance contracts.

At present Japan market is dominated by Japanese IT majors like NTT Data, Fujitsu Ltd and NEC Corp.

Infosys, in a release here, said that this alliance follows its partnership with Nihon Unisys struck in June 2007 to execute large-scale system upgrades of Oracle E-Business Suite for Nihon Unisys' customers.

For Infosys, India's second largest IT company after TCS, the deal would allow much needed leverage to secure bigger contracts and expand its Japanese market share. For Nihon Unisys, the opportunity is in being able to look at greater global opportunities.

Infosys, the four billion Dollar plus company, was keen to more than double its share of revenue from Japan from below 5 per cent of its total global sales at present to 10 per cent by 2010.

Infosys says that the alliance bring together Nihon Unisys' experience in the Japanese market, and Infosys' global delivery model and experience in open systems to deliver high-quality, high-value solutions to Nihon Unisys' customers in the Japanese market.
