Adelaide, Feb 19 (UNI) Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni credited his deputy Yuvraj Singh for their two-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their Commonwealth Bank tri-series match here today.
''The credit goes to Yuvraj,'' Dhoni told Sky Sports. ''I did the finishing job but what he did was remarkable.'' ''His batting was excellent. Yuvi really wanted to do well and it was important for the team that he got back his form,''he added.
''The way he was batting, he was enjoying it.
''That is what is expected of him, it's really good to see Yuvraj Singh score because you enjoy his batting.'' Yuvraj, who was struggling with his form in the earlier matches of the ongoing series, returned to form in splendid fashion, scoring 76 from 70 balls.
''The sooner he comes back to form the better it is for the side.
The way he batted dominated the innings was really excellent,'' Dhoni said.
Dhoni tested his recovery from a minor calf strain, scampering between the wickets during a knock of 50 from 68 balls that did not feature a boundary.
''It's more fun when you are teasing the fielders, taking doubles, triples and cheeky singles,'' he said. ''I think that's more fun than hitting boundaries. Of course the boundaries here are big.'' Dhoni was happy with the way his boys performed and asserted that win has restored confidence in the side.
''What we needed most was to get the confidence going, win some matches and get into the groove,'' he said.
About the nail-biting final moments of India's run chase, Dhoni said he asked tail-ender Ishant Sharma to see off the last two balls from slinger Lasith Malinga.
''I thought that Harbhajan and me would do it. But once Bhajji got out, I knew Malinga would bowl yorkers. I told Ishant not to lift the bat so that in the next over I will be there and we can get the chance to score those three runs,'' he said.
Dhoni said despite significant contributions from Yuvraj, Irfan Pathan and himself, Rohit Sharma's innings of 24 was crucial as it laid the platform for the rest.
''We are missing out Rohit. He played brilliantly. He set the platform for everyone,'' the Ranchi batsman said.
The result leaves India in second place in the points table with 12 from six matches, six above Sri Lanka who have played a game less.
Australia lead the way with 17 points from five matches and are almost certain to reach the best-of-three finals.
