Temperatures rise in HP

Shimla, Feb 18 (UNI) Minimum and maximum temperatures continue to rise in Himachal Pradesh, which is experiencing bright sunny days for the last several days now.

The minimum at Shimla town stood at 4.3 degrees about three degrees above normal, while the maximum was at 12.7 degrees, two degree Celsius above normal.

The met office said Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Dharamshala recorded day temperatures of 22.2, 21.6 and 17.8 degree Celsius respectively.

Sundernagar recorded a night temperature of 4.8, Bhuntar 3.6 and 7.1 degrees at Dharamshala, it said.

The minimum at Kalpa, however, stood at minus five degrees, while Keylong, the district headquarter of the tribal district of Lahaul Spiti, was cold at minus 9.1 degree Celsius.

The day temperature at Kalpa stood at 8.2 degree Celsius, the met office said.

The day began on a bright note in the hill town's state capital before thick clouds covered the sky in patches and thinned out in the evenings.

The met office has forecast snow and rain at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs.

Preventive culling on in Bihar, Jharkhand to check bird flu

New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) There has been no report of bird flu from anywhere in the country although preventive culling operation is continuing in Bihar and Jharkhand. In Assam, the poultry depopulation operation in the identified zone was completed by February 13 while out of three districts in Bihar, culling has been completed in Purnia and Kishanganj districts. Algeria to return 15 MiG fighters to Russia over inferior qlty:Media

Moscow, Feb 18 (UNI) Algeria has decided to return to Russia 15 MiG fighters delivered in 2006-07, a leading Russian business daily reported today. Quoting a source in the state-owned United Aircraft Building Corporation, Kommersant said the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, Russia's state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport, the MiG Corporation, and the Algerian Air Force had signed an agreement on the return of the MiGs last week.
